LCF Donates To The Woman’s Club Of Lincoln
The Lincoln Community Foundation is proud to announce a donation of $5,000 to the Woman’s Club of Lincoln, a historic non-profit organization dedicated to fostering educational, social, and community involvement among the women of Lincoln and neighboring areas. The donation will support the construction of a new building to accommodate the club’s growing membership and provide additional meeting space for local residents and organizations.
The Woman’s Club of Lincoln, established in 1911, is the oldest social club in Lincoln and has played a significant role in the community for over a century. The current clubhouse, designed by the architectural firm Dean and Dean of Sacramento, held its first meeting on April 8, 1924. This mission-style building, which was added to the National Registry of Historic Places in 2000, was made possible through the generosity of city councilman Walter Jansen and his wife, Emma, who donated the property, and Gladding McBean, who contributed the iconic roof tiles.
Throughout its history, the clubhouse has been a vital gathering place for women, churches, businesses, private groups, families, and community events. The Woman’s Club of Lincoln has seen a surge in membership, doubling in size over the past few years, highlighting the need for an expanded facility. The new building will continue the club’s legacy, providing a beautiful and functional space for future generations to enjoy.
Kris Knutson, President of the Lincoln Community Foundation, and Jan Bedwell, Treasurer, presented the check to the Woman’s Club of Lincoln in a ceremony today. The funds will be used to support the construction of the new building, ensuring that the club can continue to offer valuable services and a welcoming space for the community.
Richard Buss, a board member of the Lincoln Community Foundation, expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, “Supporting the Woman’s Club of Lincoln is supporting the heart of our community. This organization, with its rich history and commitment to fostering community spirit, plays a crucial role in bringing people together. The new building will not only accommodate the club’s growth but will also provide a beautiful venue for various community events, strengthening the bonds within Lincoln.”
The Lincoln Community Foundation is committed to enhancing the quality of life in Lincoln through generous support and collaboration with local organizations. The donation to the Woman’s Club of Lincoln is a testament to this commitment, reflecting the Foundation’s dedication to preserving Lincoln’s heritage and promoting its future.
